So two exciting changes to my living space in the same day.
1) The bathroom door, which always sticks in the summer and drives me crazy, has been leveled! I don't know why it feels so mindblowing to open/shut the door and feel no resistance. I think that, standing next to my bathroom sink, putting my hand on that back-of-the-door towel rack and pulling, my body expects to exert a substantial amount of effort. I have been training it to do this for two years. For it to swing freely instead makes me feel a little scared and a little bit like a superman.
2) Shelves! I got shelves! These are adorable tiny cubbyhole-sized shelves that stack taller than I am. Even though I was pretty tired today, I got so excited about sticking things in shelves that I... well, here I am, up at 1:30AM on a work night again, aren't I? I discovered some possessions (and pasta!) that I had totally forgotten I had, which is kind of scary because I haven't even been here that long, have I? Have I???
I have suddenly realized that, in my perfect room, all the walls would be filled with shelves. Ideally the shelves would be of different widths and heights (in a pleasing and regular arrangement, of course), and some of the lower shelves would be drawers, and hey while we're at it, there would be a way to cover/uncover select shelves or turn them away for more wallspace.
But I totally love the idea of owning so few belongings, and so many shelves, that literally every one of my things would have a shelf it belonged to. It would make it so much easier to find things, and it would be so satisfying to have track of everything you own and know where everything goes and never accidentally buy two extra cans of baking soda or be unable to find your gym pants. Oh, need duct tape? Just go to the cutting-and-adhesives drawer. Packing away your board games after a wild night? Hey look, there's a couple Dominion-sized gaps in your deck-building games shelf.
It should not be surprising that I spend roughly 10% of my time in any RPG organizing my inventory.
